Meta’s New $299 AI Smart Glasses: What It Means for Bangladesh

Meta has rolled out a new lineup of AI-powered smart glasses called Meta Glasses, starting at just $299 — a notably lower price than its earlier Ray-Ban Meta collection. While the official launch covers markets like the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and several European countries, the release has still sparked strong interest among tech enthusiasts across Bangladesh, where smart eyewear has been steadily gaining popularity.

A New Brand, A Lower Price

Unlike previous models built under the Ray-Ban and Oakley names, Meta Glasses carry the company’s own branding for the first time. They’re still manufactured in partnership with eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica, but represent Meta’s push to make wearable AI more accessible to everyday users rather than just early adopters.

The lineup includes three main styles: the rectangular Meta Adventurer, the bolder Meta Fury, and a premium oval-shaped collection co-designed with Kylie Jenner, priced from $399. In total, buyers can choose from 26 style combinations across colors, frame shapes, and lens types, with prescription lens support available.

What’s Inside

Meta Glasses come equipped with a camera for photos and 3K video, open-ear speakers for calls and music, and a built-in AI assistant powered by Meta’s new Muse Spark model. A dedicated action button lets users activate Meta AI instantly for hands-free help — from answering questions to identifying songs.

Availability in Bangladesh

For now, Meta has not officially listed Bangladesh among its launch markets. However, Bangladeshi consumers already have access to Meta’s earlier Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses through local retailers and importers, with prices typically ranging from around ৳25,000 to ৳90,000 depending on the model. It’s likely that once global supply stabilizes, the more affordable Meta Glasses line will follow a similar path into the Bangladeshi market through these same import channels.

Why It Matters for Bangladesh’s Tech Scene

With a young, connected population already active on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, Bangladesh represents a natural audience for Meta’s wearable ecosystem. As competitors like Snap push into the AR glasses space with pricier devices, Meta’s lower-cost strategy could eventually put smart glasses within reach of more students and professionals in Dhaka and beyond — turning what was once a niche gadget into an everyday accessory.
